Boone County Judge/Executive Gary W. Moore serves as president of Kentucky Association of Counties (KACo). Moore has served as county judge/executive for more than 20 years and has a long history of leadership in his community, our organization and on a national level.

Moore’s passion for county government began at an early age.

“I grew up in a county courthouse watching my dad serve the people as Pendleton County sheriff,” Moore said. “When I was elected Boone County judge/executive (in 1998), that fulfilled my childhood dream.”

At KACo, Moore serves on the Executive Committee, the Leasing Trust Board, the Commonwealth Insurance Company Board, the Insurance Agency Board and the Finance Corporation Board.

Judge Moore also serves nationally as president of the National Association of Counties (NACo), leading all 3,069 counties in the United States.

Additionally, he is chair of NACo’s Finance Standing Committee and previously has served as chair of the NACo-National League of Cities special task force addressing the opioid epidemic. He served as chair of the Environment, Energy and Land Use Committee for two years. Prior to that, he was vice-chair of the Transportation Steering Committee, chair of the Transportation Aviation Subcommittee and chair of the Transportation Transit Subcommittee.

Locally, he is chairman of the Saint Elizabeth Healthcare Board of Trustees, and at the state level, he is a past president of the Kentucky County Judge/Executive Association.

He and his wife, Linda, have four children and six grandchildren.
